Carl Cunningham Jr., Ph.D., is a Mobile, Alabama native and is a graduate of Murphy High School. Dr. Cunningham received his undergraduate degree from Jackson State University in Urban Studies. Carl received his Master’s in Geography and Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration, from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.  While in Hattiesburg he worked and did research in the Geography department and also worked as the National Pan-Hellenic Council Advisor for the Greek Life Department at Southern Miss.

Carl worked at the University of South Alabama (USA) for 12 years,  where he served as the Director of Multicultural Student Affairs, Geography   While at the University of South Alabama, Carl advised the University of South Alabama National Pan-Hellenic Council, Men and Women of Excellence, ABK Honor Society, and the African American Student Association. He also plays an active role with University of South Alabama where he is a part of the NCAA Champs Life Skills program and working with the student athletes on campus. Carl intensely worked with the USA Recruitment and Admission Offices in sponsoring recruitment events.
